Brasil – Nego Fugido Festival

Nego Fugido is an important cultural manifestation in the state of Bahia, Brazil.
A popular theater/musical performed by the residents of Acupe, who enact the struggle to end slavery. BEFORE THE SHOW / BEHIND THE SCENE

Until it’s time to start staging this popular opera, in the RecĂ´ncavo Baiano. And while the kids wait for their time to shine, the adults also get ready for the show… The representation of Nego Fugido is performed mostly by men from the fishing and quilombolo community of the Acupe district, the performances always take place on Sundays in July, the month that represents the struggle for independence in Bahia. The performances of Nego Fugido in the streets of Acupe build a narrative throughout the month about the story told.
